Disclosure: we build Lemma Analysis, a research tool for US stocks, so we are not a neutral party here. Every other tool’s price was read from its own pricing page on the date shown beside it, each tool gets its limitations as well as its strengths, ours included, and the method is set out under “How we tested”.
The short answer: for the US market at speed, Finviz; for the most free filters with no account, Stock Analysis; for a familiar start with ready-made screens, Yahoo Finance; for global stocks and charts, TradingView; for estimate revisions, Zacks; for terminal-style data worldwide, Koyfin. All six can be used for free with no time limit. Our own screener is paid, so it is not on this list; it is mentioned once, at the end, for readers who outgrow a free one.
The order is not a ranking, and every tool here is the right choice for somebody. The last column says for whom; the price is what you would pay if you outgrew the free version.

A screener made the list if it met all three of these:
Within that, we picked the screeners people actually name when they ask for a free one, and that each suit a different way of investing.
Free screeners are generous with filters and careful with everything around them. Before you build a workflow on one, check four things:
If you invest for the long term and care mostly about valuation and business quality, our companion piece on stock screeners for value investors looks at the paid tools built for exactly that.

We build Lemma Analysis, and its screener is not free, which is why it is not in the table. It covers about three thousand US-listed companies and ADRs, filters on valuation, profitability, growth, financial health and dividends, and on two things none of the six above can — a five-pillar Quality Score and the upside to our own intrinsic value — and every result opens on a company page with four valuation models. It is part of Ultimate (7-day free trial included), and covers US-listed companies only. The stock screener page shows what it looks like; if a free screener does what you need, keep using it.
On the check date at the top of the page we opened each screener without an account where that is possible, read its pricing, plan comparison and help pages, and wrote down what the free version includes and what it keeps for paying users. Prices are the cheapest paid plan at list price in US dollars, before tax and promotions; a plan sold only yearly shows only the yearly figure.
Two gaps are worth saying out loud. Yahoo Finance’s screener page returned an error on the check date, so its free filters are described from Yahoo’s own plan and help pages. Zacks blocks automated reading, so its free criteria are described but not counted. We did not buy any paid plan for this comparison. The page is re-checked every quarter.
It depends on how you invest. Finviz is the quickest way to scan the US market on ratios and price action; Stock Analysis gives the most fundamental filters without an account, including the Piotroski F-Score; TradingView reaches the most countries; Zacks is built around earnings-estimate revisions; Koyfin pairs a small free screener with terminal-style charts; Yahoo Finance is the familiar default with ready-made screens.
Yes. The free version includes the screener with dozens of fundamental and technical filters, delayed quotes and up to fifty saved presets. Elite adds real-time data, export, custom filter values and longer financial history.
Of the six, Stock Analysis lists the most indicators on its free screener — more than three hundred — and needs no account. TradingView offers more than five hundred fields, fundamental and technical together.
Yes: TradingView, Stock Analysis, Yahoo Finance and Koyfin all reach international listings. Finviz and Zacks are built around US-listed stocks.
Not among these six: they filter on ratios such as P/E or EV/EBITDA, which compare a price with something, rather than estimating what a company is worth. Valuing what a screen finds is a separate step — with a DCF calculator, or with a paid tool that combines the two.
Lemma Analysis gives independent investors both lenses in one terminal — a stock screener and an intrinsic value tool for the fundamentals, alongside price history and charts for timing.
